Superb white jade carved as two pea pods, circa 19th c. Symbolism: Chinese artists used seeds or nuts as a means to convey the wish that the recipient of this jade pea pod would be fortunate to beget many children. The peas inside the pea pod symbolize children. Twice as many pea pods means doubling their chances of bearing children.
